【Event】 Participation Report: “RENKEI-ECR-Collaboration-Lab-2026”

A SPRING student participated in the RENKEI-ECR-Collaboration-Lab-2026, organized by RENKEI, a university partnership program between Japan and the United Kingdom, from May 25 to 29, 2026.

RENKEI is a partnership established to promote global research collaboration among universities and researchers in Japan and the UK. In May 2026, the RENKEI Early Career Researcher (ECR) Collaboration Lab 2026, “Beyond Boundaries: Exploring New Academic Frontiers of Space,” was held, and a SPRING student took part in the program. The workshop was designed to encourage future research opportunities and build long-term partnerships. The participant met and connected with researchers from diverse fields, exchanged ideas, and shared their research interests with international peers.

On the first day, a Future Design Workshop was held at Sophia University, where participants imagined the future in 2035 and considered the relationship between future society and their own research. From the second day, the program moved to Tohoku University, where participants learned about the latest research in marine science, international law, and aerospace studies and exchanged perspectives across disciplinary boundaries.

Participant Reflections:
・“The workshop provided a comprehensive understanding of how different disciplines define, navigate, and regulate. Through the panel sessions and interactive group work, I learned how crosscutting themes connect seemingly disparate domains.”

・“RENKEI provided a setting where researchers could exchange ideas openly and identify shared research interests. This kind of environment is valuable for early career researchers because it encourages not only academic networking, but also the development of collaborative research ideas that may grow into future projects.”
